The head coach of the US World Grappling Team asked the head coach
of the US Olympic Team if he could 'borrow' Veronica for the US World
Grappling Trials. Veronica won 2 births in a few minutes of
fighting. She beat last yrs World Bronze medalist.
She could not go to the World Grappling finals because she had to be
in South America for an international Judo
competition.
The Grappling coach said she was a shoo-in for gold.

In 2009 the IOC made it many times more
difficult for US Judo athletes to make it to the Olympics. They have
essentially required a lot of world wide travel to Judo events at the athletes
personal expense. Being #1 in the US is not the critical factor any more. Major
US tournaments can cost over $125 for the entry fee alone. Add in hotel and food
and you see the problem. Now imagine having to pay twice all that and overseas
flight costs.
